Comments/Trivia
  • 1 of 6 Music Is Magic Fashions, released in 1987
  • The name of this fashion is a not Jem song title.
Produced Variants So far, I have seen this fashion sold in the following packaging. Since they were all made in China, unless noted elsewhere I don't know if there are any country-of-release related differences or not:
  • US issue
  • Canadian issue Made in China H28 (fashion featured on this ID page is this issue)
To read more about the differences in the fashion packaging, please go to Jem Fashion Box Variants.

Dress: pleather mini-dress with muted pastel "camo" design, slit up sides; iridescent yellow collar, velcros in back.
  • The prototype fabric is white with green, yellow and purple stripe/splashes, this fabric was also used on a Rose Petal Place doll fashion called "Painting Posies".

cape: Made of purple eyelash fabric; sleeves/ flip side are made of same material as the dress. (photo of the reverse side)
  • the purple fabric is the same fabric that is used for some Roxy shirts.

belt: Made of purple eyelash fabric, yellow tie is knotted at the ends and has iridescent threads in it. Velcro closure.
  • the purple fabric is the same fabric that is used for some Roxy shirts.

pants: Yellow spandex with wide ribs, elasticized waist.

ankle boots: Royal purple stiff rubber boots.

base (sic) guitar: Bass guitar, white plastic with gold cord, paper label decal.
  • The design matches the pattern for the prototype fabric a lot better.

Packaging Variants: A listing of the packaging that Splashes of Sound can be found in, that I know of, so far!
*I don't own this fashion NRFB so I can't say which, if any posters and inserts originally came with it.  Bold listings are those I have used to create this ID page.  Anything in Italics I haven't actually seen but have good reason to believe exists.  Feel free to contribute more information and/or photos!

In the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue (same photo is used in the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue) # In the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue The dress and sleeves on the cape have a linear "dash" design on it.  That fabric was used on a Rose Petal Place doll's outfit. # In the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue, the dress is shown to be white "pleather", and the armbands on the cape still have the linear dash design on it.

Music is Magic fashion boxes, same photo appears on the 2nd year catalogue poster (see top of page) The dress and sleeves on the cape have a linear "dash" design on it which matches the guitar.  The neckline looks more triangular to me than the produced version.

Illustrations: Cartoon (shown left) The purple parts are sometimes more "fuzzier" looking on the cartoon than shown here, like the produced fashion.  The cartoon fashion shoes it with pumps, not ankle boots, and the design on the dress/gloves is rather different - the prototype for Splashes of Sound looks more like this than the one that was actually made. The collar looks much more ruffled and plunging than the actual fashion's is.
