Comments/Trivia
  • She comes with starcapped flashing earrings.  She has a unique body with additional joints that allow her to pose more realistically.  The extra joints are in the middle of her upper thighs and upper arms, which twist.  Fellow Hasbroian Gi-Joe has similar joints except Jem's aren't exposed, they are under the vinyl skin.  Be sure to hold on to both sides of the twist joint (always above the elbow or knee) when posing her to avoid breakage.
  • In Belgium, she is called Rock 'n Gold Jem/Jerrica.
  • In Canada she is labelled Glitter & Gold Jem/Jerrica
Produced VariantsSo far, I know of dolls marked on their backs with one of the following places of manufacture, and there are slight variations among them:

Source Differences from produced doll (if any)
Hasbro catalogues The Glitter 'n Gold Jem (with Rio) in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue and 2nd year catalogue poster appears to be a touched up version of the Glitter 'n Gold box back photo (or perhaps the reverse is true) So all of the above is true, plus:

  # The eyeshadow is shown to be even darker!  It no longer seems to be sparkly,
The doll(s) shown on the side panel of the Glitter 'n Gold Jem box (the seated one of Jerrica is also seen on the 2nd year catalogue poster)

  # Again, very dark eyeshadow and eyebrows compared to the produced doll,   # The starcaps are nearly red, very dark,   # The hairpick is shown to be shiny gold
  # The sunglasses are not mirror-finish, ditto the bracelets, The bracelets are also those skinny zig-zags that never got made,

Glitter 'n Gold Jem models the Glitter 'n Gold Fashions (The same photos are used for the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue, the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue, the Second Year Jem Catalogue Poster and the Second Year package art)

  # Again, very dark eye makeup,
The Glitter 'n Gold Roadster  page in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue

  # Looks a lot more like the produced doll, make up is still on the dark side,
Rock 'n Gold Jem/Jerrica in the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown),
  # Glitter 'n Gold Jem's hair is very strangely styled, but otherwise looks the same as the produced doll's,   # Eye make up is on the dark side
  # Glitter 'n Gold Jerrica wears smaller gold bracelets that I've never seen before, her hair is also quite lacquered down and unusual looking to me,   # Various accessories are not shown but text states that they are included,   # Same doll is shown driving the Glitter 'n Gold Roadster,
Glitter 'n Gold Jem/Jerrica on the Glitter 'n Gold Rio page in the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown),
  # Shows a US box (Text is Glitter 'n Gold, not Rock 'n Gold) with Jem standing upright in the box, with that strange lacquered curled hair.
Box Photography Glitter 'n Gold Jem on her box back
  • Shows very dark/large eyebrows (even the darkest eye-browed dolls I've seen aren't this dark), and the eyeshadow appears to be glittery,
  • She has pink star caps (some produced dolls had clear ones)
  • the tights look to be a tighter weave, no zig-zag pattern is apparent on them,
  •  She's not wearing bracelets,

Prototypes (from Hasbro employees, etc)
Television Commercials There is a Glitter 'n Gold Jem commercial, which also shows her with dark make up.
Other Print advertisements
Illustrations: Hasbro Box art, Some illustration is used on the UK VHS Glitter n' Gold cover.
  • As usual the pink in the hair is much darker than it is on the doll, the eye make up is fairly sedate though- more like the produced dolls,
  • Shows skinny bracelets,
Illustrations; Hasbro Promotional art
Illustrations: Cartoon  She does not have a hairbow, the bodysuit design is different, the tights are darker, the bracelets are shown to be cuff-style, the collar on her bodysuit looks more like a necklace, I don't think she is ever shown with the white Jerrica skirt or sandals on the cartoon, Her hair is shown to be completely pink.
